Celebrating Age Without Limits Day 2025

The annual Age Without Limits Day is a moment for us all to come together and take action to end ageism. Initiated by The Centre for Better Ageing, it highlights that Ageism is the most widespread form of discrimination in the UK.

Between 2024 and 2025, half of people over 50 in England experienced age discrimination. Older job applicants are less likely to be hired or receive training and older people receive different medical treatment or don’t seek help because they assume it is a normal part of ageing.

We saw the day as an opportunity to recognise the value and contributions that older people make in their communities and to look at the different ways we can learn about each other and tackle stereotypes.

“What a well-organised event, stimulating and at times moving. So many people put a huge effort into making the day the success that it was. The warmth of the welcome was much appreciated. I learned (or realised afresh) what a wealth of provision there is in the borough to alleviate loneliness and social isolation, and that it is offered with such kindness and generosity of spirit. The event showed that we can learn from talking - and listening - to one another.”        Eric – Older Haringey resident

Our Reach and Connect team partnered with Haringey Sixth Form College to host an interactive intergenerational event at North London’s Tottenham Town Hall on 11th June 2025. Guests were greeted by Student Ambassadors with canapes and cordials, and more than 60 people of all ages shared their experiences in two ‘Creative Conversation’ workshops which were led by local organisations Sewn Together and The Together Project.

The day brought together organisations and practitioners to share a wide range of learning, experience and in-depth practice to overcome the challenges of ageism and empowering older people in local communities.

An Awards Ceremony, presided over by The Mayor of Haringey, followed this. Ten organisations were recognised for the significant added value they have brought to the lives of older people in Haringey.

The recipients were:

  • Coffee & Computers

  • Sewn Together

  • The Together Project

  • Jacksons Lane

  • Haringey Circle

  • Old Alone UK

  • Generation Exchange

  • Haringey Learning Partnership

  • Haringey Shed

  • Haringey 6th Form College

By working together in collaborative partnerships, the voluntary and community sector, together with social enterprise organisations, we can tackle Ageism more effectively. Ageism is one of the barriers to engaging fully in society, and can lead to loneliness, so by working together to combat Ageism we are also combatting loneliness.

To aid this, increased investment in befriending services is needed. With an aging population and increasing evidence linking ageism and loneliness to severe health consequences, the push for more innovative and accessible social support initiatives has never been more urgent.
