Artful Codgers Return with Creativity and Community Spirit

Artful Codgers Autumn 2025

With winter on the way, the much-loved Artful Codgers group has restarted and is now based in the Hornsey Vale Community Centre in Crouch End. The centre provides a warm, lively setting with plenty of other activities happening each week.

The group began its new season in August by creating mindful one-page “zines”, which are large sheets folded and cut into miniature magazines or sketchbooks.

September’s session saw members making placards for the Haringey Ageing Well Festival on 20th September, where many of the art group’s members also attended and had a wonderful time. One member, aged 100, was able to take part in all the day’s activities thanks to a fun buggy provided by the Council’s parks team.

These connections lie at the heart of the Reach and Connect initiative, which encourages participants to meet and socialise beyond group sessions, helping residents feel welcomed and recognised at community events while expanding their social circles.

Next up in October, the Artful Codgers will explore new drawing exercises and experiment with different art materials, continuing their creative journey together through the colder months ahead.
