The Artful Codgers art group has been given a fresh boost with funding for eight additional sessions, thanks to Haringey Circle. This follows the overwhelming success of last year’s workshops, which were led by Alice from Haringey Reach and Connect.

Held weekly in Bounds Green, Artful Codgers is a relaxed and inclusive art group where older participants can explore different artistic mediums in a pressure-free environment. The focus is on expression, experimentation, and enjoyment.

The group meets at Shaftesbury Hall, near Bowes Park station. This location was chosen by Haringey Reach and Connect to fill a gap in activities for older residents in the area.

Currently, the group supports 10 to 11 participants with a waiting list in place. It is further enriched by the help of Natika, a dedicated volunteer, and Zak, an intern from King’s College.

Beyond creative expression, the sessions aim to build confidence and independence, encouraging members to take ownership of the group. Over the eight weeks, participants began making their own creative choices, producing unique and striking artworks that reflected their personal styles.

The impact has been clear in participant feedback. One participant said: “It has been relaxing and very nice to meet new people and do something creative and different. I go home feeling happy.”

Another participant also said: “It’s a space where I forget the outside world and feel like a child again. I also forget the physical pain I’m in.”
